About Me

Who I Am

No HTML website would be complete without an About page, and since this is just me working on this as a hobby it seemed right to give some background.
I'm in my 30s and grew up as the internet developed from it's explosion in the late 90s to it's all emcompassing presence that it is today. I studied web design in school when it was almost entirely HTML and have studied computer use and networking throughout school.
Upon entering the real world I found myself on an IT help desk as many, many others in the industry did. After shuffling around various teams there including more advanced desktop support I found myself as a Network Engineer and since then have branched out into security, project management, compliance, and all other manner of ICT related things.

Outside of work I have spent a lot of time playing around with computers, retro tech, old video game consoles, and everything inbetween or adjacent. I have a troublesomely large collection of records ranging from Opera to heavy metal, hip hop to EDM and basically everything else. I am a big believer in right to repair, and have put a lot of effort in to restoring, reparing and saving old tech that would otherwise be scrapped. Most of the tech I use is second hand (along with a large chunk of my posessions) and I currently daily drive an old ThinkPad running Linux (Don't say it) that is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. In fact, I am about to order new parts for it to improve it's usability but every time I think of "upgrading" I can't bring myself to part with it.

Saying this, I'm not a a diehard geek - at least not anymore. Chosing to spend more of my time on creative outlets these days, while fully appreciating what technology allows us to acheive, and how easy it is to share with the world. However this career path has also allowed me a unqiue perspective into the dangers associated with the World Wide Web, from zero days to social engineering. My goal here is to help people naviagte their digital world safely and productively, while keeping hold of their mind, health and happiness. Something that seems increasingly hard to do these days. While also keeping an account of my own journey of discovery and keeping myself accountable.
